Senecio II (1922) is one of Paul Klee’s most iconic works, created during his influential years at the Bauhaus. Klee, a Swiss-German artist, combined modernist abstraction with deep theoretical knowledge of colour, form, and symbolism. The painting presents a stylised human face reduced to geometric planes, its warm ochres and reds offset by cool, muted tones. Inspired by masks, theatre, and ancient art, Klee transforms portraiture into a poetic visual language.
